Wow I haven't seen one of those in years. I was actually looking to buy one about 15 years ago.

They apparently weren't horrible cars after taking a look at Wikipedia. Either that or some Renault/AMC/Eagle fanboy has edited all that in.

A Unicorn! The proto Cab Forward Mopar.
Designed by Renault, Engineered by AMC and Built by Chrysler.
I *think* that's right or very close.
Now find a Dodge Monaco! I've only seen one. It was in a dealership.

Amazing. This is one of those cars that I've always had a weird desire to own someday, but I'd long given up hope on there ever being one available by the time I'm looking.
They didn't meet sales projections, but weren't a total flop either. Chrysler did sell a decent amount of them, but they seemed to all vanish after about 10 years.
The Premier's platform was reworked into the LH, and portions of the LH's structure survived into the LX, so at least there are a number of this car's descendents out on the roads.

WANT!
My Dad bought one of these new in '88. It was an LX in the light metallic blue, with the bluish-grey velour seats. His had all the power options, and the V6 - both were optional apparently. Also, this was the first car we had with keyless entry - it was a strange Neiman PLIP remote, like a Renault for obvious reasons. He always promised that I'd get to drive it before he sold it (I was 13 when he sold it) but never did. Never got to drive one, even after working at dealerships for years. This platform had so much promise when it was developed, but it never built out under the Eagle name. Though the LH cars that came after were great... well, at least the 1st gen.

I am a bit of a French-car apologist (I'm a former Citroën owner, and still a fan). The Renault 25 on which it was based was supposed to be a pretty good car. Not terribly exciting, but it was a competently engineered car with some cutting-edge technology for the time.

Pretty cool story!
Now buy this one for the hell of it, haha.

Sums up what I've heard. Seems like a bit of an under appreciated car. At least it's not a K-Car.

If it were closer and I had the space, I'd have already.

Haha, at least the distance is holding you back. I'd imagine that it would be a total pain in the ass to find parts.

Oh no doubt. I haven't seen one of these on the road in years, never mind in the recycler's yard.

They've all probably been melted down. There's probably an underground enthusiast following somewhere though.

Heh, French cars and the weird PLIP remote and its horrible, HORRIBLE infrared receiver. They stuck with it into the '90s – my '93 Citroën Xantia had it (although by then, they'd integrated it into a switchblade key – pretty swank for the '90s!), as did my folks '96 Renault Espace.
I don't know where the Premier put the receiver, but on Citroëns, it was up with the front map lights, which made it impossible to use when approaching the car from the front, because the rear view mirror blocked the beam. Typical French-car engineering – brilliant for the most part, with just a few stunningly boneheaded decisions to even things out.

It was by the map lights in the Premier as well. Gussied up Renault 25, after all ;-)

Whoa, that's a couple really clean looking examples of it.
That ES looks pretty nice though, the dashboard is really simplistic.
